Here’s what greeted me in my inbox this morning. Just one reason why my little sister is one of my favorite people.

These bright strappy sandals can be styled a plethora of ways, and the straps are interchangeable too!
Sseko employs women in Uganda for nine months after they finish secondary school to make these sandals and save money to pay for continued education at a university. Typically, it is very difficult for women to find employment during this time–and no money means no savings and no university. The women at Sseko are paid fair monthly wages and can save at least half of their income for school. After the program, their savings can be matched 100% by Sseko. Employees can usually save enough money for at least one year of university (out of three), and after this year it becomes easier for them to find employment, or they can work part-time at Sseko. This “not-just-for-profit” business is an excellent model for socially proactive enterprises.
